Brood 13 Release into the Earth

On August 18, 2007, Nicole Garneau and Brood 13 collaborator Rio Robbins were joined by Nicole's nieces, Reneé and Natalie Garneau, for Brood 13's final release into the earth.

After we did our final performances in Harvard on August 10 and 11, we just couldn't bring ourselves to sweep up the eggshells, rice, flour, and flower petals and dump it in the garbage. These materials had become a sacred container for the 2024 visions of McHenry County community members. We also had extra rice and flour, both colored and uncolored.

Before we left McHenry County at the end of the residency, we promised Brood 13 members that we would take the leftover materials and do something beautiful with them. Our solution was a release into the earth--in this case, a release into the earth between rows of corn in Bloomington, Illinois.
